SONIC AVENUES are just four Montreal kids who started riffing punk tunes in 2006, but since getting swept up in the booming punk epicentre of neighbouring Ottawa, they’ve been catapulted into the ranks of the best pop-punk acts in Canada! After releasing a few singles, SONIC AVENUES dropped a bomb in late 2009 with their debut LP on Ottawa’s infamous GOING GAGA RECORDS. Within a few short months, the record had sold-out twice, including out repress in cooperation with SABOTAGE RECORDS. Two years later, after obliterating eardrums from stages across North America and Europe, they returned home to record a crushing follow-up, Television Youth, this time prestigious Portland-based label DIRTNAP RECORDS will handle the pressing overseas. Featuring more of the over-driven guitars, infectious harmonized melodies and blazing 2-3 minute songs that powered their debut, the AVES have nonetheless pushed the limits into new territories with this latest offering. In short, TELEVISION YOUTH is punkier, poppier, louder and dirtier than anything they’ve done before. Armed with this devastating new arsenal, as well as ambitious touring plans spanning the (un)civilized world, SONIC AVENUES are sure to keep fists in the air and beers a-flyin’ for years to come.

First press are 1000 copies, 150 of these come in a screenprinted sleeve done by ANTIPESTO GRAPHICS, who also designed the artwork. We have 50 available for mailorder only and so have SABOTAGE and the band will have them available on their European tour in April. Check the dates at the end of this newsflash. Single copies of the limited version are 17 EUROS postage and paypal fee paid to info@takenbysurprise.net – the regular edition is 14 EUROS.

This record got a lot of love from critics and fans worldwide and the first press sold out pretty fast. NIGHT BIRDS will be doing a lot of touring in the USA this year and just started working on a new record. Their next release is a track on the ADELINE compilation THE THING THAT ATE LARRY LIVERMORE, compiled by LOOKOUT RECORDS founder, Larry Livermore.

I’m stoked to announce another TBSR release of a band from the City of Roses, ladies and Germsfans:  THE CRY!

THE CRY! is a music sensation emerging from the eclectic arts scene of Portland, OR.  With heavy power-pop influences like THE BEACH BOYS, EXPLODING HEARTS and THE SWEET, the band has re-crafted the 2 minute pop song for a new generation.  THE CRY! effortlessly merges 50′s style vocal harmonies and the jangle of 60′s pop hooks with the raw punkish emotion of the PDX street culture from which they come.

Their self titled debut LP will hit the shelves at the end of March 2012, you can already stream and download the entire thing on the band’s Bandcamp site! Our friend Yuki will press this LP in Japan on his label SP-Records!
